Indianapolis locals and visitors alike are lucky to have some really top haunted houses in Indy. Some of the best in the country, really, right in our hometown. That makes us haunt-goers very happy when it’s time for Halloween. Here is our list of some of the best haunted houses in our hometown of Indianapolis, IN.
Hanna Haunted Acres
We have start with our own attraction, Hanna Haunted Acres. Hanna is really a giant scream park, meaning there are all kinds of attractions, Indy’s original, longest and best haunted hayride, plus food, bars, midway games and more. There are 5 different haunted house attractions at Hanna – an evil family farm, a barn turned into meat and organ processing plant, the Bitten mansion full of vampires, Dark Echoes which is a dark forest of terror, and Freakshow, a circus show led by an evil Ringmaster himself and a host of clowns. The hallmark attraction at Hanna Haunted Acres is, of course, the Hanna Haunted Hayride – a must-see fall event. You can also now enjoy a beer or wine at one of two bars on property.

Thirteenth Hour Haunted House
Here’s another one we like, and it’s close to Hanna on the south-east side of Indy – Thirteenth Hour. This is a very detailed haunted attraction featuring several attractions and a very religious-styled haunted theme (or anti-religious?). Although Thirteenth Hour struggles with parking spaces, it’s a solid event.
Indy Scream Park
Indy Scream Park is another well-known haunted scream park in the Indy area, although not really in Indianapolis. It is about a 45 minute to 1-hour drive northeast of Indy depending on the traffic and where you’re coming from, located in the Anderson, IN area. It also offers multiple haunted attractions, a midway, games and drinks.
Necropolis Underground
Necropolis is an underground-themed haunted attraction also in the more proper Indianapolis area on the east side. Necropolis has been around a long time and is a large event held in a laser tag arena. It used to be a local company but was bought out by a more national haunt company a few years ago, but still worth a visit.
Nightmare on Edgewood
Another haunted house in Indy that has been around a while is Nightmare on Edgewood, unbelievably located on…Edgewood. (We’re so clever here in the Midwest.) They claim to be the most intense haunted house in Indy for 47 years. Nightmare’s headline this year is they only show original arthouse horror movies and you are in the movie. I’d be careful trying the popcorn, though.
Historic Hanna House
There is another haunted house that actually is a haunted house – the Historic Hanna House. People often confuse it with Hanna Haunted Acres but they are not the same thing. Hanna House is a really old house, now a museum, that is reportedly haunted. So don’t be fooled by the name (we know…it is confusing).
Fright Manor
There is another haunted attraction in Indy called Fright Manor. Their web site says it is in-part supporting the Southport Little League with their proceeds. Fright Manor is just south of town. This is a lesser-known attraction in town, but still made our list of haunted houses.
Indiana Fear Farm
Finally, Indiana Fear Farm is another attraction located a way out of town near Jamestown. Their web site showcases 2 attractions…a haunted hayride and the slaughter barn. From their social media photos, it looks like the Easter bunny gone bad!
Go Early, Stay Late, Visit Often
One of the great things about Indy is that there is always something great to do. So, when Autumn comes, start your season at Hanna and then check out the other top haunted houses in Indy…if you dare. Pick your date to visit Hanna on our calendar at https://hannahauntedacres.com/calendar/.
